Midwife Harriet’s Story

Midwife Harriet with a newborn baby

When I go back to my roots of being a teenager, whenever I had my holidays in my home village, I would always love visiting health centers , simply because I wanted to compare how my grandmother performed home births. She always delivered with kindness to the mothers and did good work. I noticed that the mothers always preferred her services to that of the hospital. Seeing this from her I got inspired to be trained in a modern way, by going to a nursing school.

Unfortunately there was not enough money for me to finish my course in midwifery, but luckily I met someone who lifted my hopes to finish. They offered part of the tuition payment, and with their help I began to see a knowledgeable midwife growing within myself.

From the time I graduated midwifery school in 2014, I always volunteered in government hospitals. Then one day, good news filled me when I wrote an application and was accepted to work with Grace Family Clinic at Buiga Suunrise CBO. I worked at Grace Clinic for 9 years, and during my time there I received more marvelous news when I got a great opportunity to go back for my advanced diploma in midwifery. This wonderful opportunity was sponsored by the American ladies from Global Force For Healing when they come to visit Grace Family Clinic. It was a golden opportunity for me, so when I completed my studies, I remained at Buiga Sunrise CBO to serve the community. My calling is to save mothers and babies lives . As Grace Family Clinic is transitioning, I will continue in service as the co-founder of Gentle Hearts Maternity , and my story will cross a thousand miles to share that love and save more lives.
